Artist Statement

As a collage artist, having a wide range of media from which to work stimulates my desire to create.  I am forever intrigued with combining images and materials, always enamored with translucency, words, portraits, landscape and color.  To me, collage is inherently motivating because the process and result are often a complete surprise to me.  There’s never a dull moment in my studio!

Graduating with a BFA and MS in Art Education from Alfred University, I began my artistic career as a landscape painter.  Never one to settle for one paint medium, collage became the natural next step in creating, allowing me a wide gamut of techniques and materials.  I continue to rely on landscape and my bucolic surroundings as a basis for many collages, often combining this with portraits that may be symbolic or literal.
